No. Despite my hispanic heritage I don’t speak spanish and I’ve lived in Miami my whole life.
Speaking Spanish helps a lot. Doral is full of lots of Colombians. Kendall is mostly hispanic. Hialeah is mainly Cuban. if you go to these places and walk into a small store, they’re not going to speak English. Basically, no, you don’t need to, but it sure does help.
I’ve lived in Miami my whole life and I don’t really use Spanish in my daily life… There are many people in Miami that speak Spanish only, but mostly everyone knows both English and Spanish. Believe it or not, but English is still Miami’s 1st language… Knowing Spanish in Miami gives you an advantage, but there are still people in Miami that don’t know Spanish at all.. So all in all it’s not necessarily BAD not to know Spanish in Miami…
Miami is a very Cosmopolitan City.
27 different languages are spoken on daily basics.
there is two native languages, Seminole and Miccosookee.
the Offical language is the British one.
But ,You perfectily can spend the day speaking French, or Italian,or chinesse,or spanish(only one among the 27)
in the chinesse languages there is two mayor ones Mandarin and Cantonese, the German language is spoken in the Northeast area of the City.also the French one.
the Protuguese is spoken in the SouthWest area(with Brazilean accent)
Spanish is more Central Miami………
there is several “spanish” accents mixed …Venezuelan,Chilenean,Central America,Colombian(paisas and Bogota accents).
the restaurants in the areas are refleting the “feeling of the site.”
bottom line ……
wherever You go in Miami, feel free to speak English.
IT’s America HELLO! You have an advantage because you speak english. Act a FOOL! they won’t understand you…plus, you could get free stuff if you know what I mean..lol…jk
