    it’s possable but dangerous.
    if you go remember this.. NEVER act like you expect them to speak english, they will think this very rude. just ask them politley “¿usted habla inglés?”

    Hello from a border city in Mexico. Usually mexicans are friendly and glad to help when needed. I advise you to be carefull and don’t follow instructions if you are not shure about the credibility of your adviser. Buy a map, and try to buy also an english=spanish dictionary It may help. Also you can contact the american embassy in Hermosillo and ask them directly about the risk and let them know that you are traveling down to Mexico.

    No, a lot of Mexican people (in cities) speak or at least understand English. This will happen more often in touristic cities. The only places where you might have a hard time will be in small villages.

    A tip: don’t refer to yourself as “American” meaning “US citizen”. That’s offending to many people in this region because Mexicans, Peruvians, Brazilians, etc are also American.
